Aviation EDS Scanner for Checked Baggage, Rapiscan Systems, Inc

JAMCO Engineering designed and developed mechanical systems for an advanced airport security scanner using small-angle scatter spectroscopy. The system featured a dual-energy line scanner, translating C-arm x-ray gantry, and an adaptive baggage conveyor. JAMCO also contributed to the SAS technology development, including collimator design and geometric characterization. The company built two prototypes and manufactured seven additional systems while training the client for in-house production.

Aviation EDS Scanner for Checked Baggage, Rapiscan Systems, Inc
JAMCO Engineering designed all mechanical systems inclusive for a sophisticated airport security scanner which used small-angle scatter spectroscopy to determine the composition of threat objects in checked baggage. This scanner included a dual-energy, dual-view line scanner to localize objects of interest in the baggage, a translating, C-arm style x-ray SAS gantry, and a bi-directional baggage conveyor which could rapidly change elevation over 600mm to position the object of interest in the inspection location. JAMCO also assisted in the research and development of the SAS technology including developing 3D annular collimators and precise geometrical characterizations. We built two prototype systems, and manufactured seven additional SAS C-arms while training the client to assume in-house manufacturing of these systems.
