Field Deployable High Energy X-Ray Projector, Rapiscan Systems, Inc.

JAMCO designed and built a rugged, weatherproof X-ray projector for Malaysia’s border security. The self-contained unit features a 550KV X-ray fan beam, automatic alignment, and advanced cooling and hydraulic systems, all housed in a large, robust enclosure. The system can self-align with roadside detectors, compensating for uneven ground, and includes safety features like a rapid shutter. At least seven units were produced, with all structures and mechanisms designed by JAMCO and manufactured locally to their specifications.

Field Deployable High Energy X-Ray Projector, Rapiscan Systems, Inc.
JAMCO developed a rugged, environmentally robust and weather proof X-ray projector as part of a border security system for Malaysia. This device was self-contained, including a 550KV X-ray fan beam projector, automatic alignment and collimating systems, and housed the HVPS, oil cooler, tropics-sized cabinet refrigeration system, and hydraulic power unit. It measured roughly 2.8M cubed and massed 6 tonnes. It is supported by four servo-hydraulic jacks with the X-ray projector a unitized structure mounted on pivots inside. These mechanisms, including active collimation, allowed the system to be placed on a roadside, connected to the detector via a boom across the road, powered up and it will self- align the fan beam to the detector sensor with a large tolerance for road shoulder slope and placement misalignment. The fan beam had a rapid acting shutter to limit radiation exposure to nearby staff. At least 7 of these systems were manufactured and put into service. All structures and mechanisms including hydraulic systems, system feedback sensors, and alignment components were designed by JAMCO and manufactured in Malaysia to our supplied documentation.
